Starting an Email Marketing Campaign

By John Hemit

Starting an Email Marketing Campaign can be tricky and involves a lot of things to make it a success. There are steps involved and understanding these steps will help you succeed in your campaign.

Email List

The first step in any email marketing campaign is building your list of email addresses where you will send your promotional materials to. You should use your smarts in building this list as it is a key factor to your marketing campaign. Try adding a sign up box to the home page of your blog and/or website. But always remember to ask permission via a opt in process before adding a contact to your list.

List Segmentation

The next step is finding out the names of the owners of the email addresses on your list. This way, you have a chance at personalizing your emails. It has been proven that people who see their names on an email message are more likely to open and read them.

Email Body

Next, you should create and compose the body of your email such that the recipients will be compelled to take the time to read the message and not just take a quick glance and moving it to their junk file. You can do this by catching the attention of your readers visually. You should include graphics and choose colors that are attractive and attention-grabbing. You should also keep your emails short and concise. Avoid writing long, drawn out descriptions of your products or service or else you will tire the readers and lose their attention. Keep your emails straight to the point and provide a link to your website that the reader can click if they wish to learn more about your offering.

Subject line

Once you have composed the body of your email, you should choose a subject line that will not make the recipient ignore your message. The subject line should reflect the body of your email, but should pique the curiosity of the recipient so that they will be compelled to open and read your message.

Open Rates

Getting your recipients to open and read your emails spells all the difference in the success or failure of your email marketing campaign. This starts with choosing the right people to receive your messages and composing your emails carefully. Your email marketing’s success hinges on your careful planning and execution of your campaign.
